  • Calvin Burns, LPC

Calvin has been a therapist for about four years and working in the field of counseling has been a dream of his for well over twenty years in the making. Calvin’s counseling experience has come from working with a wide variety of therapeutic settings. These have included; private practice, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential, and inpatient facilities that served a variety of mental health needs.

Through Calvin’s personal experience in counseling as a child, he began to see the impact that mental health care could have on an individual. And it was then that Calvin began to think that he wanted to extend the beneficial care that he had received to others one day.

After graduating from Lake Highlands high school in Dallas, Calvin went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, to earn a BA in Psychology and a minor in Human Development and Family Studies. This achievement was an exciting first step towards beginning his career as a counselor. After graduating, Calvin returned home to Dallas, Texas, and achieved a master’s degree in counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Calvin’s counseling specialties include disordered eating, addictive behaviors, depression, anxiety, parenting support, adolescents/emerging adults, and couple’s counseling. However, Calvin is also comfortable offering counseling to a wide variety of mental health needs that extend beyond this list. One of the unique gifts that Calvin brings to the therapeutic space is his unwavering hope for others. This hope is something that drives his practice of counseling and how he cares for those he works with. When a person’s life is supplemented with support from a mental health professional, Calvin is confident that each individual has the potential to overcome or endure any difficult obstacle someone may be facing. Throughout his time in various therapeutic settings, Calvin has seen time and time again that people can change, and he firmly believes that stories can be rewritten.
